1. Josh Woodrum

The second year undrafted quarterback out of Liberty has been virtually flawless this preseason. He went 12-14 for 195 yards passing, while rushing for 30 yards and two touchdowns. He has vastly outperformed incumbent backup Ryan Mallett and moved the Ravens’ offense up and down the field at will. Did I mention he has only been with the team since July 31st?

Now the real question is: Is he going to be the Ravens’ backup quarterback this season? No, absolutely not. Does he deserve a spot on the roster as the #3 QB or at least the practice squad? Absolutely.

Very rarely do you see an undrafted quarterback with pocket presence like Woodrum has, to go along with an excellent arm and build. If he sticks around he could be the backup to Flacco perhaps next year.

Woodrum is surprising a ton of people:

It seems almost every year the Ravens have a backup quarterback who shines in the preseason, whether it be Bryn Renner or Josh Johnson. There’s a reason why these players don’t end up making the roster, usually due to the level of competition they face.

What Woodrum does deserve however, is the chance to play against the Lions’ starting defense next week. What better way to test a young quarterback then play him against a playoff team that has an excellent edge rusher in Ziggy Ansah and a shutdown corner in Darius Slay? If he does well then he deserves a shot to be kept on the active roster as the third quarterback.

Mallett, perhaps by default is the backup to Joe Flacco, and that’s most likely the way it’ll be this season.
