2. Josh Woodrum comes back down to earth:

I have been pounding the table for Josh Woodrum to make the team. I even have been on board with him overtaking Ryan Mallett to be Joe Flacco’s understudy. Woodrum went through the first two exhibition games going 12-14 passing and impressing everybody. To the Ravens credit, Woodrum got some snaps against the Bills top defensive unit. It didn’t go as smoothly as the previous two games.

He had a crucial misfire on a third down pass. He then had a problem with the snap on the Ravens fourth down conversion attempt, that ended up in a really ugly turnover on downs. Woodrum needed to show that he was as good as his previous performance indicated. He got a chance to show off against NFL starters. While it wasn’t horrible, it wasn’t great.

Woodrum made impressive plays this preseason, even in this game. Woodrum has a ways to go and he’s been eating against weaker competition. He has good arm talent, he’s a good decision maker and he is fundamentally sound. Woodrum’s stats line ended up looking pretty good. He had a beautiful touchdown pass to Taqaun Mizzell. This is a young quarterback who still belongs on the team, in my opinion. However if the Ravens were leaning on keeping just two quarterbacks, Woodrum may not have changed their mind.
