Patrick Ricard

What position does this guy play? Defensive end? Fullback? Tight end? The answer is yes.

Ricard saw snaps from all three of these positions tonight and played well at each. He is a big intimidating body along the defensive line and can deliver crushing blocks as a fullback and tight end. He uses his gigantic size to his advantage when blocking on offense.

Versatility is key for someone like Patrick Ricard, who is in a position incredibly deep on the defensive line. Being able to contribute on offense as well gives the coaches a reason to keep him over another young defensive lineman they like. I love the idea of Ricard playing fullback and putting the smack down on some players with his blocks. It’s very fun to watch.

Josh Woodrum

Woodrum finished 8/13 for 55 yards and a touchdown. The offensive line and receivers didn’t provide much help to him all night, and he still played solid. He has poise in the pocket and can use his legs to pick up yardage if needed.

Woodrum finally saw some snaps against starters on defense. It was hard to judge his performance against the Bills defensive starters. The offensive line made things pretty tough on him. He has yet to turn the ball over, and that goes a long way when you have a dominant defense.

His most impressive play was his touchdown pass to running back Taquan Mizzell. He delivered a strike to Mizzell, who made an equally impressive reach into the end zone. Mizzell was not his first read, but he was able to find him just in time for the score.

Josh Woodrum is a kid you wanna root for. If he doesn’t make the Ravens roster then some team elsewhere will definitely snatch him up. The Ravens may end up carrying three quarterbacks this year though, just in case Flacco’s back causes problems in the season. Mallet still has the edge over him for the backup quarterback role, but Woodrum isn’t giving him much room to breathe easily right now.
