2. Chris Matthews:

It’s not a good thing for Chris Matthews that we talked about undrafted free agent wide receivers all preseason long. The reason Matthews still has a chance to make the team is that he is a big bodied wide receivers who plays on special teams. The problem for Matthews is that Quincy Adeboyejo is also a big target for the passing attack. Neither player was all that impressive, but Adeboyejo has more potential.

Matthews only had one reception this preseason. He hasn’t made an impact and that’s a problem. Sure the Ravens have veterans like Mike Wallace and Jeremy Maclin at the wide receiver position, but Matthews isn’t competing with them. Matthews is fighting for a roster spot with guys like Adeboyejo and Reynolds. Matthews has been in the NFL for three seasons and he hasn’t separated from the pack.

The Ravens wide receiver position is thin. It is not unthinkable that Baltimore would only keep five wide receivers. We know Maclin, Wallace, Breshad Perriman and Chris Moore will make it. If the Ravens keep five wide receivers that leaves just one spot. I’m not sure that last spot will go to Matthews.
