Seven of the ten players return from the Ravens 90-man preseason roster. The three new additions are Collins, Langford and McRae.
The big talk is about the two new running back additions. Both Collins and Langford are intriguing backfield prospects. We touched on Collins two days ago, but I could see Langford on the 53-man roster before the season is over. The former fifth-round pick was starter for the Bears early on last season, but fell out of favor because of injuries. Then the emergence of Jordan Howard pushed Langford’s role back and ultimately led to him being cut. Langford has proven to be a threat on the ground and also in the passing game. In two seasons he’s totaled 737 rushing yards and 421 receiving yards. I’m excited to see what he can do when given the opportunity.
Aside from the running backs, it is surprising to see no quarterback taken on the practice squad. Given Flacco’s health and the inconsistencies of Ryan Mallett, you’d expect the Ravens to want to keep another quarterback around just in case. Hopefully this means that they are confident in Flacco’s ability to play 16-games this season.

Many will overlook the practice squad additions, but they can prove to be vital to a team’s success. With injuries and trades, the Ravens could be looking for depth at certain positions, throughout the season, most notably running back and offensive line. Don’t be surprised to see some of these players on the active roster at some point this season.
