1. The Ravens have the deepest defense in football:

Last season, Jimmy Smith’s disappearing act took a brutal toll on the Ravens defense. This season the Ravens have a much better contingency plan than Shareece Wright. The Ravens number two corner, Brandon Carr is capable of going toe to toe with any receiver in football. He has a wealth of experience, he’s seen it all in the NFL. Marlon Humphrey can provide strong play at the number two cornerback spot if he is called upon. Humphrey is aggressive. Sometimes he’ll pay for that aggression and take his lumps, other times it will lead to big plays. Having Weddle and Jefferson over the top puts a lot less pressure on the secondary too. The Ravens have reason to be confident in Hill and Webb as well.

The front seven is stacked. The Ravens have eight defensive linemen who can all make an impact on game day. The starting three features Brent Urban, Michael Pierce and Brandon Williams. Behind that are guys like Carl Davis, Bronson Kaufusi and Chris Wormley. At the outside linebacker position there will be plenty of rotation. Suggs and Judon are the most probable starters, but Bowser, Za’Darius Smith and Tim Williams should all get plenty of snaps.

The Ravens are so well equipped:

Most depth charts in the NFL are filled with a plan B and a plan C that they don’t want to rely upon. The Ravens have a handful of players for every defensive position that they can all count on. This defense is never getting tired and never getting worn out.

Injuries are a part of the game. Hopefully, for the Ravens sake, the defense doesn’t suffer many more this season. However, the Ravens have plan B players that can start on other teams. The preseason isn’t important. Players like Taquan Mizzell getting cut make this perfectly clear. However the Ravens went 4-0 in the preseason because their depth on defense is better than that of any team in the league. The Ravens invested a lot in their defense this season. Teams like the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers took advantage of the Ravens who had a key player missing. The Steelers wore out the Ravens defense, and the tide turned yellow in the second half of the Christmas game. These pitfalls are not happening with quality depth and an impressive rotation for Dean Pees to work with.
