Baltimore Ravens: 5 things we learned against Bengals
#5 – The Ravens can’t avoid the injury bug
Since the start of training camp, the Ravens underwent a slew of injuries. Whether it was Flacco’s back, Perriman’s hamstring, Ronnie Stanley or Marlon Humphrey’s unknown problems, or season-enders to that of Crockett Gillmore, Nico Siragusa, Alex Lewis, or Albert McClellan, the Ravens can’t catch a break.
Unfortunately, the injury bug bit the Ravens again on Sunday. Both running back Danny Woodhead and outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith got carted off the field with injuries.
After catching three passes for 33 yards on Baltimore’s first drive, Woodhead’s leg got twisted. He spun down to the ground and immediately signaled for the trainers. From watching the replay, it looked like Woodhead re-aggravated the left hamstring that caused him to miss a portion of training camp. The severity of his injury is unknown, but hopefully its not a season-ender.
Woodhead tore his right ACL early last season. This injury is to his left leg.
In the second quarter, after sacking Dalton a short time beforehand, Smith went down with a knee sprain. After the play, he remained on the ground in noticeable pain. I was shocked when I heard that Smith had just sprained his knee, because the way Smith reacted made you think he tore something. If its just a sprain, Smith should be back in a few weeks.
Next: Ravens beat Bengals: Grading the performance
Staying healthy simply does not come easy for the Ravens. Tim Williams did not suit up on Sunday, so if Smith misses time he can slide into the lineup. Assuming Woodhead misses a few games, the Ravens will need to make up for the production that Woodhead gave them on the opening drive.
