Baltimore Ravens: 5 thoughts following the Week 4 loss

2. Flacco needs to go, but it doesn’t make sense right now
The entire Ravens offense is to blame in the loss, but a good majority of that comes on the man under center. Joe Flacco was horrid again and it’s got many people wondering when the ship is set to sink. For a player that’s on a $120.6 million contract, Flacco hasn’t played anything close to that. Sunday marked the 10th straight game with an interception for Flacco. But as much I agree that his time is coming to an end, it’s not going to be an abrupt one.
The Ravens are financially married to Flacco for at least the next two years. There’s no possible way for the Ravens to handle a $53 million cap hit. Keep in mind, they’ve been restructuring contracts just to be able to sign players on and off the practice squad. No other team would trade for Flacco given the cap hit in the first place.
A potential out in 2020 makes the most sense financially. But even in that case, it’s still two years and some change before the Ravens will be able to fully move on. The Ravens did what they had to do to keep their quarterback after a Super Bowl win, but it’s been one that hasn’t been worth the investment.
