4. What a difference Matt Skura makes

As beat writer Jeff Zrebiec pointed out earlier today, left guard Matt Skura was an unsung hero in last night’s win. What a difference it makes having him back on the offensive line. Not to take anything away from Jermaine Eluemunor, but he’s just not ready to be a starter at this point in his young career.

It wasn’t just protecting Joe Flacco and Ryan Mallett in the pocket, Skura was solid in the run game as well. The Ravens line paved the way for another 100+ yard performance on the ground. As much as the passing attack has struggled, the ground game has been a consistent threat the entire season.

The offensive line has been hanging by a thread because of all the injuries they’ve suffered this season but having Skura back is a huge boost. He’s no Marshal Yanda but at this point, the Ravens will take what they can get. Skura’s starting experience will be crucial past this season as he will be an important backup for the Ravens next season once the rest of the offensive line is healthy.
