2. The Alonso hit was dirty

I’m not going to sit here and beat a dead horse, but it’s pretty obvious that Kiko Alonso’s hit on Joe Flacco was dirty. If you defend it, I’m calling you crazy. I don’t care if you say it was a bang-bang play, the NFL wants to protect quarterbacks and didn’t do that last night.

There was no need for Alonso to lower his shoulder on the tackle. I’d see it differently if Alonso’s tackle didn’t look intentional but it looked blatant. If that was Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers, you can guarantee that Alonso would have been ejected on the spot. Instead, Alonso got to stay in the game while Flacco was ruled out with a concussion.

Where’s the logic in that?

I’ll be extremely upset if Alonso doesn’t come away with at least a one-game suspension. If Andrew Sendejo has his suspension held up for his hit on Mike Wallace last week then Alonso deserves the same, if not more.

It amazes me we have a college system that can review plays for targeting, but that same system isn’t implemented in the NFL. With the new studies and further research on CTE, this isn’t a good look for the NFL. For the Ravens and Joe Flacco, they’ve got a long week of rest before next Sunday.
