Baltimore Ravens rookie cornerback Marlon Humphrey was arrested this morning after allegedly stealing a phone charger.

This morning, Michael Casagrande of AL.com has reported that Baltimore Ravens rookie cornerback Marlon Humphrey was arrested on third-degree burglary charges this morning. According to Casagrande, Humphrey was been booked in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on $2,500 bond.

Humphrey’s booking falls under this category according to Alabama state law.

"“He/she uses force against the person of the owner of the property or any person present with intent to overcome that person’s physical resistance or physical power of resistance; or (2) he/she threatens the imminent use of force against the person of the owner of the property or any person present with intent to compel acquiescence to the taking of or escaping with the property.”"

Since then, more information has arisen.

It was then reported by Stephanie Taylor of The Tuscaloosa News that Humphrey was accused of stealing a $15 phone charger twelve days earlier on January 13th at 3:19 a.m. ET.

Humphrey was booked on felony charges this morning, while the original incident report cited fourth-degree theft, which is a misdemeanor.

The Ravens released an official statement shortly after the news broke.

More information from the incident report cited that Humphrey and three other females were in an Uber going back to Hotel Capstone in Tuscaloosa around 2 a.m. on the morning of the 13th.

According to the report, Humphrey asked to borrow a cell phone charger from the driver and refused to return it. When Humphrey refused to return the cable, he elbowed the drive and “balled up his fist, and acted like he wanted to fight,” per the report.

University of Alabama police arrived on the scene and noted that the cable Humphrey had didn’t work for his cell phone.

It wasn’t until this morning that Humphrey was booked on the felony charges.

Other NFL players chimed in on the situation including Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick and Ravens safety Lardarius Webb.

This is a bizarre situation. Assuming the incident reports were true, this is ridiculous. That kind of sentencing arises over a $15 phone charger? You have to be kidding me. What seemed like a much bigger deal from the original report is just silly now.
