Possible Cap Casualties

Jeremy Maclin: The Ravens’ final free agent signing of 2017 proved to be their worst. Newsome has had a knack for finding productive veteran wide receivers in the past but Maclin didn’t continue the trend. He battled injuries and appeared in 12 games, finishing with a career-low 72 receptions and 440 receiving yards. Maclin is due $7.5 million next season and there’s no way he’s back with that kind of cap hit.

Danny WoodheadWoodhead was one of Ozzie’s under-the-radar signings but the Ravens never reaped the benefits. A hamstring injury kept Woodhead out the entire first half of the season. He was an active pass-catcher from Flacco out of the backfield but failed to score a touchdown and was underwhelming. Buck Allen and the return of Kenneth Dixon likely marks the end of Woodhead’s tenure with the Ravens.

Lardarius WebbThe Ravens cut Webb and re-signed him to a cheaper contract last season. Tony Jefferson took over the strong safety role alongside Eric Weddle and Webb played sparingly in a nickel corner role. His season was nothing to write home about and the Ravens have younger options with Maurice Canady, Tavon Young, and Jaylen Hill. They can save around $2 million by cutting Webb and every penny will count.

Brandon CarrThis would be the most surprising cap cut but it’s an enticing option because Carr is owed $7 million next season. It all depends on Jimmy Smith‘s recovery and availability of his Achilles injury. Carr had his troubles but he’s a reliable option that’s never missed a game in his entire career. The Ravens will have to choose between durability or savings with this one.
