Of all the offseason changes on the offense, the running back position has gone untouched. Aside from adding a slew of undrafted rookies, the Ravens chose not to sign a free agent back or draft a young talent with one of their 12 picks. That speaks volumes to the confidence in Alex Collins and heā€™s rightfully earned the feature back role this season. With that being said, DeMarco Murray presents a veteran option in the backfield. And much like the Ravens have done it on the defensive side of the ball, it would make sense to add a veteran running back.

Take a look at both teams that competed in Super Bowl LII. Both followed the ā€œrunning back by committeeā€ approach. They featured a trio of backs with various skillsets and talents that provided a lethal combination for opposing defenses. Murray was slowly outed by Derrick Henry last season but is still a viable option at 30 years old. Heā€™s just two seasons removed from a 1,287-yard campaign in 2016.

Murray excels as a pass-catcher out of the backfield. Collinsā€™ strengths are as a north-south runner and Murray can be the check-down/screen option for Joe Flacco. He can make defenders miss and turn two or three-yard catches into big plays. Kenneth Dixon has still yet to prove he can consistently stay on the field and if the Ravens are in search of a No. 3 option behind Collins and Buck Allen, Murray could be that player.
