Who would be the odd man out?

More from Ebony Bird

If the Ravens manage to make this move, then one cornerback is probably exiting. Brandon Carr is the most likely odd man out. Jimmy Smith and Marlon Humphrey are a strong pair at the cornerback position. While Brandon Carr was a nice addition to the secondary in 2017, Breeland would be a strong improvement. The only reservation is that Carr is as durable as a player as the NFL has, and Breeland has injury concerns. From a talent standpoint, Breeland is just better than Carr.

If the Ravens make this move the roster math gets tight at the cornerback position. Somebody would more than likely have to be axed from the roster. It isn’t going to be Jimmy Smith or the Ravens 2017 1st round pick, Marlon Humphrey. It isn’t going to be Tavon Young or Maurice Cannady, they’re young players with a ton of potential. Anthony Averett may be a rookie, but he is a rookie that the Ravens have high hopes for. Going down the list you’ll see that Carr is the presumed member of the 53 man roster that the Ravens could justify getting rid of. ‘

The Ravens could theoretically bring in Breeland without cutting another viable cornerback, however that roster math gets very complicated very quickly. The Ravens are already thinking about keeping three quarterbacks. This year the Ravens may be tempted to carry a full seven wide receivers. The Ravens have to work out the salary cap stuff as well, but the roster numbers are what we can play around with.
