1. Showing off the secondary depth:

More from Ebony Bird

The Baltimore Ravens have been off for a few months and we’ve had nothing to do but speculate on what we’re going to see in the 2018 season. One thing that seems to be a consensus is that the secondary is talented and it is deep. I’d doubt Jimmy Smith will play in this game and Brandon Carr and Marlon Humphrey shouldn’t see a lot of action either. That means the secondary has all game long to shine a light on it’s depth.

For those of us who haven’t been plugged into training camp, this will be the first look we get at Anthony Averett and DeShon Elliott. These two players were drafted on day 3 of the 2018 NFL Draft and they have a lot of potential. It will be interesting to see how ready they are for the stage of NFL football. Tavon Young is coming back from an injury that kept him off the field in 2017. It will be interesting to see if he has that same pesky quickness and tenacity that made him so effective in his rookie season. Will Chuck Clark show off as a strong safety? Will a player like Stanley Jean-Baptiste or Jackson Porter creep up into relevance by their play in the preseason?

These are all answers that need to be answered through play on the field. That’s what the preseason is good for and the questions in the secondary are the number one thing to think about on Thursday. If the Ravens secondary is as good and as deep as advertised, the Ravens defensive backs will dominate the game well into the fourth quarter, when most people have already tuned out.
