Preseason games may be meaningless in terms of the results, but the process is what shapes the Baltimore Ravens 53 man roster:
The Baltimore Ravens take on the Miami Dolphins tonight. Preseason or not, a battle with the Dolphins has come to mean a big win for the purple and black. The Ravens have had their way with the Dolphins in the regular season as of late. They even dominated the Dolphins last year in the preseason. This is the most important preseason game, because it is traditionally the Ravens dress rehearsal game.
That means that the starters are going to be the main focus of the evening. Once the starters are done, the roster bubble will become the draw of the game. Let’s take a look at a few players with the most to gain from tonight’s game:

- Janarion Grant: Grant has a chance to make the 53 man roster for two reasons. The first reason is that the wide receiver competition has been frustrating for everybody and it’s anybodies roster spot at this point. Secondly, Grant has been the most impressive punt returner. While he had a fumble last week it was after a decent return and if he makes it a one time thing, Grant could be fine.
- Darren Waller: While all the tight ends will benefit from Hayden Hurst’s 3-4 week prognosis, Waller has the most to gain. Hurst is the best play-maker the Ravens have at the tight end spot. If Waller can show off as a receiver, he may be able to make the team (at least until Hurst is good to come back).
- Stanley Jean-Baptiste: The Ravens were going to keep six cornerbacks one way or another. Now that the Ravens don’t have Jimmy Smith for the first four weeks of the season, Jean-Baptiste can fit into the Ravens six cornerback slots going into the regular season.
- Zach Sieler: The Ravens have seen impressive play from Sieler and they’re probably looking for a way to keep him on the active roster. Sieler appears to be a space eater and he has the ability to rush the passer a bit as well. The defensive line is crowded, but Sieler has a chance to steal a roster spot tonight.
