The notorious “Raven killer” A.J. Green will suit up Thursday night against Baltimore, and the team is hoping Marlon Humphrey is ready to step up.

How many times has A.J. Green broken the hearts of Ravens Flock? It feels like every match-up against the future Hall of Fame wide receiver has featured big-play after big-play with gut-wrenching moments fans can’t forget. Whether it was an incredible Hail Mary touchdown grab or a walk-off touchdown, Green has always had Baltimore’s number.

More from Ebony Bird

In 10 career games against the purple and black, Green has 48 receptions for 817-yards and six touchdowns. For all you math wizzes out there, that’s 17.0 YPR, which is just ridiculous. Baltimore has absolutely struggled to shutdown the now 30-year old wide receiver. Even with the help of Pro Bowl caliber cornerback Jimmy Smith, the Ravens just can’t seem to find a winning formula.

But could Marlon Humphrey be the answer?

After all, Marlon Humphrey was drafted 16th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft with the hope that he could become Baltimore’s next ace corner. In fact, in the final game of the 2017 season Green was abnormally quiet, as he was held to just two receptions for 17-yards on ten targets. Maybe it’s not a coincidence that Smith was out of the game, leaving Humphrey to top cornerback duties.

So now our question becomes this: Is Marlon Humphrey the answer the Ravens have been looking for to shutdown A.J. Green? It’s absolutely possible, and perhaps he can provide better results than Smith could.

God knows the Ravens are going to need this dream to become reality if the team hopes to get a win against the Bengals. All week, we’ve been building up this game as part of the team’s revenge tour and it certainly has been circled on the team’s calendar since the 2017 season ended. Well, tonight is the night that we exact our revenge.

The biggest key to a Ravens victory on Thursday night will be to shutdown A.J. Green. If the Ravens can successfully do this, the rest of the defense has only gotten better and should be more prepared this time around for Cincinnati. But shutting down Green is priority no.1, and Marlon Humphrey could be the key piece the team needs to finally achieve this goal consistently.
