2. Troubleshooting protection problems:
Based off the Ravens first two games of the season, there is no getting around the fact that they are outmatched by the Denver Broncos defensive front. The Broncos are solid all across the front seven. The Ravens’ offensive line keeps their fans up at night. If the Ravens think they can have Flacco stand back in that pocket like a statue, and win this game, they better think again. The Ravens have to get better protection up the middle of the offensive line and there’s no negotiating with that. On the edge though, the Ravens are outmatched.

The Ravens have to either get the ball out of Flacco’s hands quickly, or they need to get him out of the pocket and roll protection for him. This is a great game for bootlegs with passing options coming across the field at two or three different levels. This is a great game for plays that will knock the Broncos off balance like a play-action misdirection play, screens and draws. If I’m Marty Mornhinweg, I’m messing around with tempo, using unbalanced lines and refusing to let Flacco get eaten alive in a pocket that barely exists.
The Ravens have to get the running game going. This will alleviate pressure on the Ravens passing attack. The run game has been a non-factor but the Ravens can’t have Flacco throwing it more than 30 times in this game. Mornhinweg would be wise to always have a tight end or a fullback in the game. The Ravens need all the pass protection they can get. Max protect and have the new star receivers win one on one match-ups; that’s the prescription for the Baltimore Ravens.
