The 2019 Reese’s Senior Bowl hit a bump in the road on Wednesday, but that won’t stop us from breaking down what we’ve learned thus far for the Ravens.

The Senior Bowl practices for Wednesday January 23rd were closed off to the public because heavy rain, moving the practices to a smaller, indoor stadium. But, that hasn’t stopped the Ebony Bird team from researching, studying, and talking to players, personnel, etc. for digging for information surrounding the Baltimore Ravens.

Here’s what we have thus far, with two more nights with scouts, media members, etc. and one more days worth of practices yet for us:

Ravens scouts were spotted at the Senior Bowl interviewing University of Texas defensive lineman

Charles Omenihu

after North practices ended.

More from Ebony Bird

Omenihu had a productive career as a Longhorn, notching 30.0 career TFLs and 16.5 sacks in his time in Austin, Texas. Omenihu would be a defensive lineman unlike what the Ravens are accustomed to seeing, as he is a productive pass rusher. While the team is reliant on big, heavy defensive linemen, they hardly get production from these guys as pass rushers. Omenihu would change this perception, and could be a target for Baltimore on late day two.

  • Louisiana Tech pass rusher Jaylon Ferguson talked a lot about his game, but noted he wants to hit like former Baltimore Ravens great, Ray Lewis.

I got to sit down and talk to Ferguson about his productive career at Louisiana Tech, and he noted time and time again that his hands and violent technique are what will separate him from the pack. In fact, Ferguson declared himself to be at the top because of how unmatched his production as a Bulldog was. Better yet, Ferguson talked about how he looks to hit people as hard as Ray Lewis did. That’s the attitude and mantra that we want to see out of someone who the Baltimore Ravens could target.

  • Predictably, Mississippi State’s Montez Sweat (a player consistently linked to the Baltimore Ravens in 2019 mock NFL Drafts) is dominating the Senior Bowl this week for the South team.

Montez Sweat entered the Senior Bowl as my EDGE-3, behind Nick Bosa and Josh Allen, and that could be the consensus moving forward. Sweat has been destroying every offensive linemen he’s been put up against and is showing fantastic bend and reaction time in drills. It’s hard to see a situation where Sweat isn’t a top-ten pick.

Senior Bowl practices will be re-opened up to the press on Thursday, the last day of practices before the game itself is held on Saturday. The Baltimore Ravens certainly love their Senior Bowl players, and we’ll be keeping a close eye out for Ravens specific contacts while we’re out there.
