3. Marlon Humphrey: Rated 85 overall

There are 18 cornerbacks rated higher than Marlon Humphrey. This is absurd. By the end of the 2018 season Humphrey was playing at a level that was clearly in the top 10 conversation. Humphrey is given the rating of a very good cornerback when he’s one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. Humphrey was the Ravens MVP last season and he is one of the Ravens top five players. It’s an obvious fact, it doesn’t warrant a lot of consideration.

The reason Humphrey isn’t rated higher has to be that he’s not an interception machine. His game doesn’t revolve around his ability to turn defense into offense. Humphrey is a shutdown cornerback. He makes life hard for wide receivers and he doesn’t always make the highlight reel play.

The Madden 20 ratings are fair for the most part when it comes to cornerbacks. It’s a passing league and there are a lot of great defensive backs because of it. Humphrey’s ratings are off in several ways. One thing that makes no sense is that his tackling rating is a 67. That’s low even for a cornerback. It’s especially low for a cornerback like Humphrey, who prides himself on toughness and willingness to help in run defense.
