Pernell McPhee:

While Don Martindale is a different defensive coordinator than Pernell McPhee had in his last stint in Baltimore, Ravens defense is Ravens defense. McPhee knows exactly what the Ravens expect from him and the Ravens know exactly what he can do for them.

McPhee had 7.5 sacks in 2014 and the Chicago Bears paid him big money to be something he wasn’t. McPhee was never a dominant outside linebacker who would win battles off the edge like it was easy. He built a career off of being a crafty pass rusher who can bully his way to the quarterback with an inside move. McPhee can get back to what he was good at. He can have more reasonable expectations and find his niche in this defense.

Shane Ray:

Ray is one of the only players in this position group that has had success earlier in his career. Ray had eight sacks in 2016 but that was the one truly good year of his career. Injuries derailed him and he’s done next to nothing since. Ray is a complete mystery going into the 2019 season. He could be a good player who gets back on track or that eight sack season will prove to be nothing more than an aberration. It remains to be seen if he has anything left to offer. The one thing that he has going for him is that he has done it before. Maybe he can do it again.
