Isaiah Stumpf: Trace McSorley

There are many players to keep an eye on during the Ravens’ pre-season game against the Jacksonville Jaguars tonight. One of the biggest names to look out for is quarterback Trace McSorley.

McSorley is going to get a lot of playing time this preseason, especially with the injury to Robert Griffin III. McSorley is on the bubble as of now, but if he can display his skill set not only as a quarterback, but also running and possibly on special teams, he may force his way onto the roster.

McSorley is a mobile quarterback who can produce in multiple ways on the field. A great comparison for McSorley is Taysom Hill of the New Orleans Saints. Hill has the ability to catch, run, and throw the ball, not to mention his play on special teams. Being a swiss-army knife makes it hard for a team to turn a player away and McSorley has the ability to do just that.

In tonight’s game pay attention to where and how McSorley lines up. Keep an eye out for a possible number seven sighting on special teams. There are no limitations to what the Ravens will ask McSorley to do.

Being the mobile quarterback that he is improves his chances of making the team because he is able to run an offense similar to how Lamar Jackson does. But with RG3 being the backup, it is more likely McSorley will be used as a gimmick player to keep opposing defenses on their toes.

McSorley will be very involved in tonight’s game and should make a name for himself. Coaches already seem to be impressed with number seven, so running the offense smooth and consistently, while showing his wide-ranged skill set, could allow McSorley to soar even farther up the coaches radars.
