Ravens who helped themselves against the Redskins
3. Justin Bethel:
Justin Bethel’s main purpose is as a special teams ace if he makes the 53 man roster. Bethel has a good reputation for his special teams ability. Tonight, Bethel showed that he could get some work done as a defensive back. In the fourth quarter Bethel nearly had an interception despite offensive pass interference being called on the play. The turnover didn’t count because it was ruled that he stepped out of bounds. It was an impressive play one way or the other.
Bethel had decent coverage on a couple of occasions in this game. He had two tackles. Maurice Canady, who is the main competition for Bethel to get a roster spot had a rough preseason. Canady had a decent game but so did Bethel. The difference between Bethel and Canady is the ability to make an impact on punt team. Bethel just had to show some chops as a defensive back to secure his roster spot. He did that.
The Ravens had as good of a night as you can have on the fourth week of the preseason. They got their 17th straight win in the preseason. It was a great night for these players as well. They did what they could to give themselves a shot at the 53 man roster.
