The Baltimore Ravens put the finishing touches on another perfect preseason with a 20-7 win over the Redskins. Who stood out?
The Baltimore Ravens have now won 17 straight preseason games. They had a 20-7 win over the Washington Redskins at FedEx field Thursday night in Landover, Maryland.
There were very few starters that saw significant time in this game, but several players stood out that were looking to either cement their status in Baltimore’s 53 or play their way onto the practice squad or another NFL roster.
Offensively, the stars of the show were running backs Kenneth Dixon and De’Lance Turner. Dixon, the fourth year oft-injured back, went for 66 yards on 13 carries while Turner pitched in 62 yards on 18 carries and the game’s final touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
It could be too little too late for Dixon to earn his way onto the Ravens roster. He has been banged up (what’s new) throughout the preseason and he may be out of chances. Dixon is a very talented player that just hasn’t been able to put it all together in Baltimore. Maybe he sneaks onto the 53 but if a trade partner is not found, Dixon will likely be looking for work in 48 hours. He should find it quickly.

Turner is a practice squad candidate. He was called up from the practice squad last season before getting injured and handing his roster spot to Gus Edwards. Edwards took the role and ran with it (literally and figuratively) and turned in a great season. Turner could once again find himself as the next man up if the Ravens suffer any injuries in the running game.
Trace McSorley is going to make this team. The Ravens would be making quite a gamble in trying to pass the 2019 seventh rounder to the practice squad. He was solid again last night going 15-27 for 171 yards and a touchdown pass to Jaleel Scott. Speaking of standouts, how about the 2018 fourth rounder? He hauled in six passes for 87 yards and a touchdown. It was Scott’s second straight week with a TD and he should be on the final 53.
Defensively Otaro Alaka is making life difficult on the Ravens. Statring inside linebacker Chris Board was cleared form his concussion leaving Alaka’s spot in jeopardy. The undrafted rookie free agent made a statement Thursday night delivering arguably his best performance. Would love to see him on the Ravens practice squad with a year of development.
Tyus Bowser and Pat Ricard have been the two best players on the field for the Ravens defense this preseason. Both of them have exceeded whatever expectations you may have had for them. They will be both be contributing when the real games get going.
There is no room for Maurice Canady on this roster. He is simply not good enough. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Cut him and see if he catch on and get beat somewhere else. DeShon Elliott also struggled last night but he is a lock for the roster.
All in all, a nice preseason for the Purple and Black. Let’s get to the real stuff!
