2. Where is the pass rush?

Where is the pass rush for the Baltimore Ravens? It’s a really good question. The Ravens were playing a bad Bengals’ offensive line and they only came away with two sacks. Pass rush has been a non-factor is several games this season. Matt Judon only has four sacks this season. Pernell McPhee has three sacks and Tyus Bowser has two. Nobody else has multiple sacks. The problem on the edge of the defense is fairly obvious. Judon and McPhee are the best players and are just giving serviceable production.

There is no inside pass rush to speak of from the defensive line. The Ravens desperately need to see the pocket pushed from their defensive ends and defensive tackles and it’s just not happening. Without blitzes, this defense struggles to get pass rush when they need it most. The defense is like a superhero who can’t control their powers on demand. When it works it looks good, but we spend the rest of the game wondering, can they do it again?

When the Ravens went into the offseason they knew that the outside linebacker position was going to need young players to step up. Without Terrell Suggs and Za’Darius Smith, the Ravens had to count on a new wave of talent. Well, Tim Williams got cut after the loss to the Cleveland Browns. Tyus Bowser has shown signs of life, but he doesn’t seem to fill the Smith sized void. The Ravens need to see more out of Bowser and they need to hope that Jaylon Ferguson comes on strong. There is hope for Bowser, who is playing his best Ravens football lately. There is hope for Ferguson. They have to deliver on that hope because this defense needs more pass rush.
