Geno Stone player comp from Ravens past: Eric Weddle

Eric Weddle, especially in his San Diego Chargers days was a safety who had it all. He was a ballhawk, a hitter and a leader. So when I give the last rookie the player comp of Weddle, it’s a big deal. Stone has time to develop but being a player like Weddle is his ceiling. Stone was the most under drafted player in the 2020 NFL Draft. While he has a long way to go before he matches the career of Eric Weddle, he will undoubtedly prove he should have been picked before the third day of the draft.

Stone and Weddle have very similar builds and their athletic toolsets are very similar. In his last season at Iowa, Stone had 70 tackles, three forced fumbles, a sack, and an interception. He was a player who made plays all over the place and at a very high level. I personally had Stone ranked as a top 100 player in this draft class. He was an easy third or fourth-round pick in my estimation. I noted it when I was watching him and getting ready for the draft, he has a little Weddle to him. Weddle played a bunch of free and strong safety in his career, and Stone has the ability to be a versatile safety as well.

There you have it. 10 rookies and 10 player comps from the Ravens past. There were some very fitting comps here and some of them fit the prospect to a tee. My favorite of the player comps is Malik Harrison’s. I really do see him as the Jamie Sharper of the current Ravens construction. The biggest stretch on these player comps that I have assigned is hard to find. The comps that don’t fit completely fit in at least two notable ways. This was a very fun and exciting project. Is it football season yet?
