3. It creates the most conversation:

Now it’s time to be a little cynical. I have no doubt that the players in the top 10 are the players who received the most votes. I do however wonder if the Ravens’ quarterback got the number one spot, and the Chiefs quarterback go the number four spot because it would get the most attention. The most poplar narrative is that Mahomes is the best quarterback in the NFL and it’s not even close. My personal opinion is that the two players are equals who get it done differently. People get riled up when the most popular train of thought gets pushed around a little bit. Putting Jackson anywhere above Mahomes was going to generate a ton of conversation and debate.

This is the ultimate goal of the NFL Top 100. At the end of the day it’s about how many clicks they can get, how many eyeballs they can draw in on the television. It makes NFL Network more relevant. The fact of the matter is that until football kicks off in September, we’re talking about this list. I think it’s cool that Jackson got the top spot. With player voting and the last season we saw you can certainly justify it. If the NFL Top 100 had Mahomes number one and Jackson number four, it would be less debated. The smaller market fanbase of Baltimore would have had something to say about it, but less people would be hot and bothered.

The bottom line is that the NFL Top 100 has gotten a ton of buzz and a lot of conversation. It’s been trending on Twitter, and it’s hard to avoid getting into the debate if you go online. That’s what they want. I think Jackson being number one is justifiable. In fact, I love that he’s got the top spot. The NFL Network knows you can make the argument so if it was close or tied, he may have gotten the edge.
