Linebackers and defensive backs

Outside Linebacker: Chauncey Rivers, John Daka

Pass rush, pass rush, pass rush. Both Chauncey Rivers and John Daka have a shot because the Ravens value pass rush. The Ravens can make room for more pass rush on their roster. They already have Matt Judon, Pernell McPhee, Jaylon Ferguson and Tyus Bowser as locks for the roster. Do you see enough pass rush in there?

Both players are a little undersized and rely on their quickness and their athleticism a bit more than their power and size. They are both players to watch. It’s not like they are trying to get onto the roster at the most loaded position. Outside of Judon the Ravens don’t really know how much they are going to get out of their outside linebackers. If Daka or Rivers steals the show in camp, they can be on this team come September.

Inside Linebacker: Otaro Alaka, Chris Board

Last year Chris Board had a chance at earning a major role in the defense. C.J. Mosley was gone and he was a player who the Ravens needed to step up. Board really didn’t take advantage of his opportunity and now he’s a bubble player. Otaro Alaka probably should have been on the active roster when the 2019 regular season started. If I had to pick between Alaks and Board, it’s going to be Alaka.

All we’ve seen of him so far is that he’s a tackling machine and he’s not a bad athlete on top of that. Last preseason Alaka made an impression. I think he has a chance. More importantly I think he’s on the inside track. He’s a bubble player because the Ravens have Patrick Queen, L.J. Fort and Malik Harrison already in front of him.

Defensive backs: Terrell Bonds, Josh Nurse,  Jordan Richards, Nigel Warrior

The more I think about it, the more I think the secondary is already set for the purple and black. Somebody has to play special teams and that’s where the competition comes from. At safety, Richards and Warrior are behind Earl Thomas, Chuck Clark, DeShon Elliott and Geno Stone.

Special teams is the only way they see the field. Richards is already a proven special teams commodity so it’s just a numbers game he has to be on the right side of. Bonds played in the AAF, a short lived Spring football league. Neither Bonds or Nurse have a great shot at making the roster because cornerback is such a loaded position in Baltimore.
