It’s hard not to be all doom and gloom after the Baltimore Ravens dropped a heart-crushing game to the Kansas City Chiefs, but here are a few positives:

I’m not normally a pessimist, but the Baltimore Ravens performance vs. the Kansas City Chiefs has left me numb and full of questions about the team moving forward. To help counter this, I’ve decided to highlight some of the positives from the game. After all, it isn’t all doom and gloom when you sit at 2-1 in the young season with a very beatable schedule ahead. Let’s dive right into it.

  • Easily the best play from MNF for Baltimore was a 93-yard kickoff return touchdown from rookie Devin Duvernay. It was the team’s first kickoff return touchdown since the 2017 season. That came from Bobby Rainey #ThrowBack. Duvernay is giving the Ravens a much-needed spark on special teams that hopefully continues throughout the remainder of the season.
  • James Proche

also had a nice 16-yard punt return for Baltimore. The team didn’t capitalize on the return, but Proche looks to be a very good return man option moving forward. Proche is averaging 12.5 yards per return.

  • The Ravens couldn’t catch a cold last night, its pass-catchers dropped five passes, but Lamar Jackson threw some very pretty footballs last night. There was a pass deep down the far sideline that Marquise Brown should’ve come down with and Mark Andrews dropped a couple of great passes including a potential touchdown. Jackson was far from perfect, but he’s the least of the team’s problems right now.
  • L.J. Fort continues to have a wildly successful 2020 season, racking up five tackles on the night. Fort has been a terrific partner-in-crime and mentor to rookie Patrick Queen and should continue to see the field more often than not.
  • Where the Ravens struggled to pass the ball vs. the Chiefs, they ran the ball extremely well. Baltimore averaged a whopping 7.5 YPC as a team and saw both Jackson and Gus Edwards run for over 9.0 YPC. It’s unfortunate that the team got away from running the football because the run game once again looked dominant.
  • Justin Tucker remains the best kicker in football. Tucker scored eight of the team’s 20 points, including a 42-yard field goal. Baltimore may have struggled to consistently get into field position to put up points, but when it did Tucker delivered.
  • Chuck Clark has picked up in 2020 where he left off in 2019. Clark had 10 tackles on the night and forced a critical fumble on Kansas City running back Darwin Thompson. While he did have one questionable tackle late in the fourth quarter (he should’ve pushed the receiver out-of-bounds but instead kept him inside and gave up a first down), Clark was exceptional.

That’s all I got. It isn’t much, but it’s something. The Baltimore Ravens take on the Washington Football Team in week four and hopefully take out some of their frustrations on a mediocre team.
