2. It will restore the offense from a year ago:
What if the offense not looking the same isn’t just about the absence of Marshal Yanda? What if the Ravens need to be able to use three tight ends in their offense, not just for the pass but for the run. With Engram in the fold the Ravens could return to the same offense they had a year ago. Remember, Mark Andrews didn’t play a high snap count a year ago.
Andrews still isn’t a great blocking tight end and Engram can at least live up to the expectation set by Hurst in this area. The Ravens lost their identity on offense. That’s hard to dispute right now, and their identity had to do a lot with three tight ends who had three different roles in the offense.

Andrews is the play-maker down the field. Boyle is the blocker who can be a surprise weapon in the passing game and Engram is the best of both worlds. The Ravens can do a lot of different things with Engram.
They can line him up anywhere and he can get the job done. Engram checks all the boxes for the offense. He’s a big bodied tight end. He has some versatility and would surely improve the passing game. If he fills the Hurst role, the tight end that does a bit of everything, he could be just as good if not better in that spot.
This trade could be the thing that snaps Greg Roman out of his funk and back to the creativity that made Baltimore so powerful on offense a year ago. It can’t hurt to tinker with the offense and one of the best adjustments could be going back to the ideas that worked so well a year ago.
The Ravens focused so much on this offense taking the next step that they may have tried to fix what wasn’t broken. You know what happens when you try to fix something that isn’t broken? You come up with an idea about as bad as square wheels.
