History was within reach for Lamar Jackson this weekend and he did something no quarterback has ever done before: he has multiple 1,000-yard rush seasons.
When the Baltimore Ravens got set to face the Cincinnati Bengals in week 17 with a shot at the playoffs on the line all eyes were on Lamar Jackson to lead the way. Whether he did it with his arm or his legs, Jackson was going to have the world watching for a stellar performance.
Thus far, Jackson has been excellent with two touchdown passes in the first half against Cincinnati. But something more important happened in the second half. History was on the line for Jackson. And then, Jackson rushed for more than 92-yards vs. the Bengals.

Why is this a big deal? Because with that number Lamar Jackson has become the first quarterback in NFL history to record multiple 1,000-yard rushing seasons. Nevermind that he did this in back-to-back seasons more impressively. Jackson laid claim to a mark that was never thought imaginable.
There has only been one other quarterback with multiple 900-yard rushing seasons, Michael Vick. Vick is actually the only other quarterback with a 1,000-yard rushing season, doing so back in 2006. Vick is widely considered to be the greatest mobile quarterback of all-time, but not even he ever had multiple 1,000-yard seasons.
Lamar Jackson actually set the single-season quarterback rushing yards record a year ago when he topped 1,206-yards in 15 games. As of writing this, Jackson has 1,005-yards in 15 games.
Jackson has now totaled just shy of 3,000 rushing yards in his first three seasons, which is also an NFL record. It’s beyond words just how special this kid is, and he’s not even 24-years old yet. Jackson remains in his prime and is undoubtedly the best mobile quarterback in football right now. He’s certainly on his way to GOAT status.
It’s truly a record that many of us never believed we’d see in our lifetimes. It was unthinkable in a pass-happy league, but Lamar Jackson now has multiple 1,000-yard rushing seasons as a quarterback. The best part? It feels like he can do it again and again and again.
