Ravens studs and duds from crushing Week 17 loss to Rams
By Kristen Wong
5. Tyler Huntley, QB, Ravens
The Ravens failed to score an offensive touchdown in Week 17, and quarterback Tyler Huntley should be partly to blame.
After admirable performances against the Packers and Bengals, Huntley sputtered against the Rams. He went 20-of-32 for 197 yards and threw a pivotal interception that led to a Los Angeles touchdown at the end of the second quarter.
That score gave Matthew Stafford a rope to climb out of the then-13-point deficit. Had Huntley not been picked, the Rams may have still scored anyway, but the fact of the matter is Huntley needed to take care of the ball better.
Given Baltimore’s injury issues, Huntley had virtually no margin for error.
Whenever an offense fails to score a touchdown all game, the quarterback shoulders much of the blame…
6. The Ravens wide receiver room
But not all of it. Which leads us into the next dud of the game: Baltimore’s wide receivers.
Mark Andrews remains the team’s most productive target, but the Ravens have promising prospects in Rashod Bateman and Devin Duvernay, among others.
Bateman caught seven of 10 targets for 58 yards and Duvernay added another 19, but Baltimore’s passing offense just never gelled all game.
Marquise Brown, arguably the most experienced of the bunch, finished with just three catches for 28 yards. Some of these offensive shortcomings may be attributed to a very strong Rams defense headed by Jalen Ramsey, Aaron Donald, and Von Miller.
Baltimore’s offensive line, too, allowed Huntley to get sacked five times, and Greg Roman has received his fair share of criticism.
Just one game away from the postseason, the Ravens offense has glaring issues to fix, and the team is running short on time.
After the Cincinnati Bengals won in Week 17, securing the AFC North title, Baltimore suddenly finds themselves in a very precarious position.
Depending on other AFC results, the Ravens have a shot at squeezing into the playoffs, but at best, they’ll earn a lower seed.
For now, the team anxiously awaits Lamar Jackson’s return. Jackson may be their only — and last — hope.
