7 biggest needs on the Ravens roster entering the 2022 offseason
By Justin Fried
6. Ravens roster need: Cornerback
Another position the Ravens love to have quality depth at is cornerback, and their lack of depth at the position was exposed by untimely injuries in 2021.
Marcus Peters will return and hopefully reform one of the best cornerback duos in the NFL alongside Marlon Humphrey again. But aside from them, the rest of the unit is a question mark.
Anthony Averett seems likely to depart in free agency while Tavon Young is a candidate to have his contract restructured or even outright released to save money.
The Ravens can’t really afford to have players like Kevon Seymour and Robert Jackson competing for depth spots next year. They need to make an addition or two.
5. Ravens roster need: Inside linebacker
This is easily one of the more under-the-radar needs on the roster. The Ravens have Patrick Queen…and not much else at off-ball linebacker right now.
Josh Bynes was signed off the street at the start of the season and he went on to play better than anyone could have expected, solidifying the linebacker position and helping get the most out of Queen.
Bynes is a free agent in the offseason, and there’s a good chance he will be brought back. But relying on the soon-to-be 33-year-old Bynes as a starter seems like a mistake.
No one else on the roster, either under contract or a pending free agent, projects as a starting-caliber player in 2022. Expect the Ravens to explore the linebacker market both in free agency and the 2022 NFL Draft.
