The Ravens are undoubtedly exploring their external free-agent options right now, but they haven’t ruled out bringing back a few of their own either.

The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec reported on Thursday that the Ravens have shown interest in re-signing three defensive starters from a year ago: defensive lineman Calais Campbell, linebacker Josh Bynes, and outside linebacker Justin Houston.

Starting with Campbell, the 14-year NFL veteran will return for at least one more season in the league, although it’s unclear if he will do so in a Ravens uniform.

Given the team’s lack of depth on the defensive line, bringing back a player like Campbell should be a top priority for the Ravens. It all just comes down to where he wants to play.

As for Bynes, the veteran linebacker returned for his third stint with the organization in 2021 and helped solidify a position that was in dire straits before his arrival.

The Ravens also have a significant lack of depth at linebacker and re-signing Bynes would add a veteran presence to the team’s linebacker room. A presence they will surely need come September.

We’ve already touched on the Ravens’ need for a pass rusher, and if Ingram isn’t high on their list of targets, Houston might just be. Houston did a good job holding down the fort last season and, much like Ingram, he was probably a bit better than the box scores would indicate.

The Ravens need to solidify their defensive depth and all three of these players make sense as likely targets.
