The Baltimore Ravens needed an extra arm in camp with Lamar Jackson absent from OTAs, and they added one on Thursday in the form of veteran Brett Hundley.

A fifth-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Hundley spent the first few years of his career with the Green Bay Packers where he managed to receive some playing time following an untimely Aaron Rodgers injury in 2017.

Hundley would start nine games in 2017, going 3-6, and finishing with nine touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He did complete over 60 percent of his passes, but he averaged just 5.8 yards per attempt and struggled with turnovers.

The former UCLA standout would find himself traded to the Seattle Seahawks the following summer, although he’d never appear in a game for his new team.

Hundley signed on with the Arizona Cardinals the following offseason and would spend two years as Kyler Murray’s primary backup. He appeared in three games in 2019 completing 5-of-11 passes and hasn’t stepped on the field since.

The 28-year-old spent last season with the Indianapolis Colts as he bounced between the team’s active roster and practice squad. Now, he’ll be looking to stick with the Ravens.

Brett Hundley is an experienced body for the Ravens with Lamar Jackson absent

In reality, Hundley faces an uphill battle as it pertains to his chances of actually making the team’s final roster. Tyler Huntley is the presumed backup and it would be a surprise to see him relinquish that role this summer.

The addition of Hundley likely has more to do with Jackson’s absence from OTAs than anything else. With Jackson not there, the Ravens had just two quarterbacks under contract — Huntley and undrafted rookie Anthony Brown.

Hundley is someone who fits the mold of what the Ravens look for at the quarterback position and someone who at least has a little bit of NFL experience under his belt.

He’s a capable veteran who can serve as extra insurance behind Lamar Jackson this summer. Perhaps he even sticks around on the practice squad if he impresses enough.

Don’t expect Brett Hundley to make a significant impact, but he is an important depth addition as the Ravens prepare for the summer.
