The Baltimore Ravens made it very clear following the end of the season that an extension for Derrick Henry would be in the works. Henry also made it clear he would love to stay and retire as a Raven. The mutual interest came as a sigh of relief for fans who now want Henry in Baltimore even more after he rushed for 1,921 yards and accounted for 18 touchdowns.
But his season was overshadowed by fellow 2024 free agent running back Saquon Barkley's 2,000-yard season with the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles (rightfully so). The Eagles followed Barkley's historic season by awarding him an extension that makes him the highest-paid running back in NFL history. The move potentially complicates things for the Ravens, a team that is already tight on cap space and preparing to make Ronnie Stanley a very wealthy man.
No one can replace the unique size, speed, and power that Henry brings to the table, but here are three 2025 draft prospects the Ravens should look at if things sour between the two parties.
3 prospects Ravens should target after potential Derrick Henry complications
Ashton Jeanty, Boise State
It was odd to many Ravens fans that the team planned to host Jeanty for a private workout when it's almost a no-brainer he will not be available when the Ravens pick at 27. He most likely won't even make it past the top 15.
Jeanty burst onto the scene this year with Boise State, rushing for 2,601 yards, only 28 yards away from breaking Barry Sanders' record for rushing yards in a single season. His performance propelled the Broncos to a conference title and a College Football Playoff appearance. Though he was contained, for the most part, against Penn State, you could see his special talent.
On offense with Lamar Jackson, it's hard not to be in awe of his ability and fantasize about what he could do.
Cam Skattebo, Arizona State
Skattebo embodies everything it means to 'Play like a Raven.' He has often said how he seeks out contact to strike fear in his opponents and fight for those extra yards. And that is everything Baltimore looks for in their players: mean, hard-nosed, stone-cold killers. Think about the 2000 Ravens defense.
Skattebo is not the biggest guy, standing at just 5-foot-9, but once you watch him play, it's like he's the biggest guy on the field. It always takes more than one guy to bring him down, and somehow he almost always stays balanced.
You would have a tough time watching him and not saying, "How did he get through there? How did he do that?"
Trevor Etienne, Georgia
Etienne transferred to Georgia this past year and didn't see the field as much as he hoped. He was suspended for the first game and battled injuries throughout the year. But when he was on the field, he made it count.
Safe to say the Bulldogs like to run the ball, and Etienne was a big part of that. His most impressive performance came when he scored three touchdowns against a great Texas defense.
Etiene is also a guy that is smaller in stature but is a natural runner and knows how to find the holes in the defense.
