The Baltimore Ravens went through a dramatic overhaul this offseason, and many believe it could yield immediate benefits. The new coaching staff led by the trio of Jesse Minter, Declan Doyle, and Anthony Weaver is one of the brightest groups in the NFL.
It’s obvious why people say Baltimore is due for a massive turnaround. Minter has a case to be considered a top-five defensive playcaller, Doyle is on track to be among the fastest-rising head coaches, and Weaver brings an energy that is extremely contagious. Those guys have what it takes to give this team the jolt they so desperately need.
For Doyle, success seems inevitable. And if he leads the Ravens to an impressively dominant season on offense, fans are going to have to come to grips with an unfortunate reality: Jesse Minter may quickly see his offensive coordinator depart for a head coaching gig.
Baltimore Ravens’ 2026 season could prove Declan Doyle is poised for way-too-early departure
The Ravens are going to have to capitalize on this new era sooner than some might expect. There’s been a clear focus on youth in head coaching these days, and if NFL teams see a young coach distantly separating himself from the competition, they’re going to snatch them up. That could certainly happen with Doyle.
When you look at the situation that he’s in, all the chips are really falling into place for Doyle to earn another promotion very soon. He has an unstoppable duo between Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry by his side, along with another electrifying piece in Zay Flowers. That’s a dynamic offense that’s waiting for Doyle to unlock them again.
There’s belief that Doyle can showcase early signs of a breakout in his first season as the full-time offensive playcaller, too. In an article for The Athletic, Jourdan Rodrigue highlighted one breakout assistant coach for every team, and her pick for Baltimore was Doyle. No shocker here. Rodrigue wrote:
“Doyle is the subject of much curiosity around the league as he enters his first season as Baltimore’s OC. He comes from the Sean Payton coaching tree and last worked as offensive coordinator under Ben Johnson in Chicago, so his potential in pairing with a versatile top quarterback in Lamar Jackson — a two-time MVP — is high.”
It’s that experience that makes Doyle such an intriguing head coaching candidate in what could be the near future. He was an apprentice of Sean Payton, who’s praised as one of the better head coaches of all time, and more recently, he worked under Ben Johnson, who is an offensive genius that’s been a part of this youth movement on the coaching front. Pretty much everywhere he’s gone, he’s worked under successful leaders.
It feels like the meteoric rise that Doyle’s been on will only continue in Charm City. On the field, that would be excellent for Minter’s Ravens. However, that also probably means that Doyle wouldn’t be in the building too long. The 42-year-old head coach is already going to see a ton of trials and tribulations over the first few seasons, and Doyle leaving his staff sooner than some expect could throw another wrench into the plans of this new era.
Simply put, Doyle’s on a fast track to becoming a head coach. The league believes, the media believes it…everyone believes it. And the Ravens must pounce on the golden opportunity of having so much young talent on a coaching staff at one time. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance staring them right in the face.
