After the Baltimore Ravens’ 1-4 start, many figured trades could be on the horizon. The season seems like a lost cause, given the abysmal performance of the defense and the variety of injuries. On Tuesday, they admitted the Odafe Oweh experiment was over, trading him to the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Ravens dealt Oweh and a 2027 seventh-rounder from the Los Angeles Rams to the Chargers for safety Alohi Gilman and a 2026 fifth-round pick.

🏈Ravens receive:
Safety Alohi Gilman and a 2026 fifth-round pick.
🏈Chargers receive:
Edge Odafe Oweh and Rams 7th in 2027.
Oweh was off to a rough start production-wise, failing to tally a sack and accounting for just one tackle for loss through five games. The Chargers need some pass rush help with outside linebacker Khalil Mack on injured reserve due to an elbow he suffered in Week 2 against the Las Vegas Raiders. They get that in Oweh.
Ravens trade Odafe Oweh to the Chargers
Oweh is set to be an unrestricted free agent by the time the 2026 offseason rolls around. Unfortunately, Oweh was likely to leave by the end of the year, so Baltimore General Manager Eric DeCosta opted to trade the 26-year-old rather than losing him for nothing.
The Ravens themselves were having pass-rush issues. They have tallied just six sacks in 2025, which ranks in the bottom five in the NFL. Losing Oweh will only make it worse, but it should pave the way for rookie pass rusher Mike Green to play a key role for the rest of the 2025 campaign.
Along with a draft pick, Baltimore also receives Gilman. The defense failed to replace safety Ar’Darius Washington, who has been out due to an Achilles injury. With Gilman, they get a starting-caliber safety, who has posted a 65.5 overall grade, per Pro Football Focus, in five games. He is also an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason, though, so his future in Baltimore is not certain.
This could be the first trade of many for Baltimore. By getting Gilman in return, they are clearly still trying to be competitive, but if the offers keep coming and team struggles continue, DeCosta may be forced to make more moves in the coming weeks.
