The Baltimore Ravens are deep in their head coaching search. Of the 16 candidates, there are certainly some polarizing names on their board. Among those is Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Matt Nagy.
It appears that Nagy will get a head coaching job. Kansas City is currently looking to possibly bring back former OC Eric Bieniemy as Nagy's future is uncertain. Nagy is seen as a top candidate for the Tennessee Titans' opening.

This news should delight Ravens fans, as Nagy also interviewed for Baltimore's head coaching opening. However, Nagy's track record suggests that hiring him would be a grave mistake. Nagy has also interviewed for the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders jobs. At this juncture, the Titans appear to be the clear frontrunners for his services, though.
Nagy previously spent four years as the Chicago Bears head coach. While the Bears did make two playoff appearances under Nagy, they never ranked above 21st for yards per game. Nagy has spent the past three seasons with the Chiefs, and their yards per game immediately declined from the best in the league to ninth, and they didn't crack the top 10 in the following two seasons.
Not ideal for an "offensive-minded" coach. Hiring Nagy would be an outright disaster, and Ravens fans should be happy that the Titans seem ready to make this mistake.
"Missing out" on Nagy is best for the Ravens
Nagy was never considered a clear frontrunner for the Ravens job. Names like Klint Kubiak, Jesse Minter, Brian Flores, and Klint Kingsbury have been more commonly linked to Baltimore. Regardless, it's nothing that they chose to interview him. Furthermore, owner Steve Bisciotti noted that he was very intrigued by the idea of giving another chance to a coach who didn't work out the first time.

"Unlike 18 years ago, I'm very intrigued by coaches that were the hottest OCs and DCs 5,6,7 years ago in their cycles, got jobs and got to teams that were non-competitive and didn't have a QB, and they grind for 3-4 years and… pic.twitter.com/Asb0I2pvMH
If the Ravens truly prioritize some sort of head coaching experience, Nagy, Kingsbury, Flores, Jim Schwartz, Vance Joseph, Mike McDaniel, and Robert Saleh all fit this bill. Perhaps Sean McDermott could be in the mix after the Buffalo Bills fired him.
Of course, this doesn't guarantee that Nagy would be a top candidate for the Ravens' job. Nevertheless, it certainly increases the chances, and as noted, this isn't something that would benefit the Ravens.
Listen, I'm not opposed to hiring a retread head coach -- but it better be someone who exhibited more competence than Nagy has (outside of a magical 2018 year). Flores and Kingsbury stand out to me as guys with head coaching experience who could benefit from another opportunity.
Even still, I wouldn't discount the idea of hiring a promising young coordinator like Kubiak or Minter. Luckily, the Titans' interest in Nagy seems legitimate enough to save the Ravens from a costly mistake.
