The Baltimore Ravens couldn’t move forward much longer without addressing the offensive line. And general manager Eric DeCosta didn’t wait around. He struck a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles to acquire Cam Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-round pick for a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick.

Following the announcement, DeCosta offered a glowing review of Jurgens.

DeCosta had to get aggressive. Whether it's his fault or not, this year’s offensive line is failing. Three center injuries will do that, but even John Simpson and Ronnie Stanley have had serious trouble.

With all the uncertainty at center, this team had to find another worthy starter. Jurgens has struggled at guard in 2026. As a center, though, he’s been far more comfortable. The results have been mixed, but Baltimore needed stability, and if the move back to center can fix things, DeCosta may have found what this line needs.

Eric DeCosta shows urgency with Baltimore Ravens’ trade for Cam Jurgens

Many weren’t too happy with how Eric DeCosta addressed the offensive line this offseason. It was horrible in 2025, and hasn’t looked much better in 2026.

A three-year, $30 million contract for John Simpson was a lot for a highly inconsistent guard, and replacing Tyler Linderbaum with Danny Pinter, Jovaughn Gwyn, and Ethan Pocic gave them depth but little talent.

With all three centers going down with long-term injuries, the plan to rebuild the offensive front completely fell through. That part isn’t DeCosta’s fault, but he had to do something to address the interior, especially after Lamar Jackson went down with an ankle injury in Week 4.

That plan now becomes Cam Jurgens. Once he’s out of concussion protocol and ready to play, which’ll hopefully be in Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns, Jurgens is set to become Baltimore’s center.

And this team obviously needed a true center. Vega Ioane did a great job in that role last week against the Tennessee Titans, but he had some inaccurate snaps, and he’s believed to have All-Pro potential at guard. He needs to move back over there.

The Jurgens trade allows the Ravens to put their guys where they’re at their best. Jurgens can scoot back over to center, and Ioane can take his natural guard spot. It should be the best-case scenario for both guys.

Now, DeCosta’s newly formed offensive line remains a big question mark.

Roger Rosengarten and Vega Ioane are the only two guys who have consistently looked strong. Ronnie Stanley and John Simpson, on the other hand, haven’t done enough in pass protection. And adding Jurgens doesn’t exactly instill much faith in that group, as he hasn't looked the same since injuring his back in 2024.

Still, DeCosta acted with urgency. Dealing a fifth-rounder and a future second-rounder is a massive price tag, but it shows he’s serious about the offensive line. Only time will tell if this fixes Baltimore’s biggest flaw.
