The Baltimore Ravens had a very strong offseason. After adding the likes of Trey Hendrickson, Jaylinn Hawkins, Vega Ioane, and Zion Young, their roster has been rejuvenated with veteran and young talent. Still, even in the waning moments of the offseason, more roster moves could come.
After being fired by the Ravens, John Harbaugh landed on his feet with the New York Giants. What followed was a free agency period filled with former Ravens turning in the purple and black for the Giants’ red and blue. Harbaugh took almost every former player. Now, there might be a reason to go get one more.
New York lost Roy Robertson-Harris for the season after it was revealed that he tore his Achilles. A possible replacement? Baltimore’s Broderick Washington. As he appears to be a cut candidate, it could be smart for Eric DeCosta to trade him to his former coach.
Baltimore Ravens could be wise to trade roster hopeful to John Harbaugh’s Giants
With the loss of Robertson-Harris, the Giants could use one more depth piece on their interior defensive line. Remember, they traded Dexter Lawrence ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft, and they’ve turned over pretty much every stone to add depth to help fill that void. Now, they take a step back, but could take a quick step back forward by acquiring Washington.
Washington isn't anything special. In fact, he's struggled in recent years. He's still seen plenty of action, though, and experience could be the key factor that the Giants look for when it comes to potentially replacing Robertson-Harris. And as for the Ravens, well he may no longer have a future in Charm City.
It’s hard to pinpoint Baltimore’s exact plans for its interior defensive line room. The signing of Calais Campbell pushes Washington down the depth chart, and young players like Rayshaun Benny and Aeneas Peebles could also challenge him. It’s what has made him feel like an obvious cut candidate. That, and the fact that moving on from him would save just over $4 million.
However, a trade would save the same amount of money. So what if a team came calling, offering the Ravens something of value for Washington? Even if it were just a future seventh-round selection or a late-round pick swap, that’s something worth entertaining. And knowing DeCosta’s love for draft picks, it might even be tough to turn down.
Washington is still recovering from the Achilles injury he suffered in 2025. He also got the surgery in November, so while it’s not a guarantee he’ll be ready for Week 1, he should be ready relatively early on at the very least. With Harbaugh already having a relationship with Washington, too, it could be worth it for the Giants to make a move for him. They seem like the perfect trade partner for the Ravens.
