The Baltimore Ravens might be entering a new era in 2026 under Jesse Minter, but even with a first-year head coach, expectations are high. They have a team that is certainly playoff-caliber. When you have Lamar Jackson under center, you can’t afford to have another throwaway season.
Still, it’s fair to expect some bumps in the road throughout Minter’s first campaign as an NFL head coach. He’s undoubtedly one of the brightest minds in football, but the role of a head coach is entirely different. In the same breath, though, there’s a lot that he’ll need to live up to.
One bold prediction that’s been placed on Minter’s shoulders is that his group will be the last undefeated team in the NFL. In a recent ESPN article, analysts shared thoughts and predictions ahead of 2026. Among those was Field Yates’ heavy forecast for the Ravens. Yates wrote:
“The league has many heavyweight bouts early on in the schedule -- the kickoff game is a Super Bowl rematch. But the Ravens don't face a team that made the playoffs last season until Nov. 1, when they face the Bills.”
Baltimore Ravens have pressure mounting on their shoulders after lofty projection
Predicting Jesse Minter to lead Baltimore to being the last undefeated in football is obviously a big-time projection. And in all honesty, it’s a bit unfair to put that on a first-year head coach. However, there's clearly a path to him accomplishing that feat.
As Yates wrote, the Ravens don’t have many early matchups against playoff foes. The NFL schedule release was very nice to them. Not only were they gifted an easy opening stretch where their first game against a 2025 playoff team doesn't come until Week 8 against the Buffalo Bills, but most of the first seven weeks are against rebuilding or retooling franchises.
Among the New Orleans Saints, Tennessee Titans, Atlanta Falcons, and Cleveland Browns, many of those organizations are either working their way back up or searching for their identity. It’s certainly possible that the Ravens make it to Week 8 with an undefeated record, and if that happens, there’s a strong likelihood they would be the last undefeated team remaining.
However, the seemingly comfortable early road does come with a couple of serious obstacles. Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys in Brazil and Week 7 at home against the Cincinnati Bengals will present tough clashes. Sure, both defenses are riding the struggle bus, but their offenses are absolutely loaded with starpower. As Baltimore looks to reinvent their defense under Minter, it could falter and get exposed in either of those games.
Ultimately, it’s only a projection, and no one would be shocked if the Ravens have trouble getting the motor running in the early going. They’ll be taking the field under a first-year head coach after all. However, that’s not to say the expectations aren’t high. The goal should be to get back to the playoffs, and if that doesn’t come to fruition, the season would be an obvious failure.
