Ravens get the Nnamdi Madubuike news they desperately needed at training camp

The Baltimore Ravens had a stellar offseason, but there was one player whom they have desperately missed. Now, he’s back. Nnamdi Madubuike made his long-awaited return to the field on Wednesday, as he passed his physical and was activated off the PUP list.

This comes just days after a very encouraging update on Madubuike’s neck injury, where doctors officially cleared him to play football again. Safe to say, fans were ecstatic to see him back in pads.

Madubuike was really the last piece missing from the Ravens roster in 2026. They upgraded, or at least addressed, nearly every position this offseason. However, the 28-year-old’s return may be the biggest “addition” of all entering a critical year.

Of course, Madubuike still has a long way to go before he returns to his peak form. It’s been an agonizing journey, and this will be the first time since Week 2 of 2025 where he’s truly working out in full capacity. Thankfully, we’re getting closer and closer to seeing Madubuike back in football-ready shape.

The good news is, the Ravens have the pieces around Madubuike to make life easier for him as he works back from injury. It’s fair to expect him to have a slow start, but with new defensive line additions like Trey Hendrickson, Zion Young, and Calais Campbell, the defense has more than enough talent to get the job done. It’ll also be an even bigger boost for Madubuike, as he should see more one-on-one opportunities—rather than being one of the most double-teamed defensive linemen in football.

If the Ravens do see Madubuike quickly return to that All-Pro and Pro Bowl-level form, though, they’ll be as dangerous as any defense in the league. They may even be impossible to stop. Along with adding consistent producers in Hendrickson and Campbell, the unit has an elite playcaller in Jesse Minter.

Over the past two years, it felt like former defensive coordinator Zach Orr had severe trouble adjusting throughout games. His passion for the game was certainly appreciated, but when it came to game-planning for some of the best offenses in the league, he couldn’t keep up. That’ll undoubtedly change under Minter, who’s quickly risen to be among the top defensive minds in the NFL.

The last time the Ravens had an elite defensive coordinator was reigning Super Bowl champion head coach Mike Macdonald. Madubuike had his best season under Macdonald, leading that ferocious 2023 defense with 13 sacks. If Minter can replicate Macdonald’s defensive success as many expect, Madubuike may be staring down a golden opportunity to not only return to form, but dominate.

Fans must be patient with Madubuike, though. As exciting as it is to see him working out on the field again, there are plenty of hurdles left for him to clear. Regardless, the two-time Pro Bowler is in an outstanding position with just over a month to go before the regular season kicks off.
