The Baltimore Ravens have finally made it to training camp. Players started to arrive on Friday, and on July 28, they’ll have their first team practice. NFL football is almost back.
On Saturday, though, there was some rough news on the injury front in Baltimore. They placed six players on the PUP list. Those names include Nnamdi Madubuike, Travis Jones, John Jenkins, Adisa Isaac, Teddye Buchanan, and Bilhal Kone.
While that's a list of not only too many names, but key pieces, there was a major silver lining within the smoke of it all. We finally have a real Madubuike update.
According to The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec, Madubuike has been cleared by doctors to return to the field.
This is a dream come true for Ravens fans.
Baltimore Ravens receive dream Nnamdi Madubuike update amid injury shuffle
This news is the peak of what we’ve heard all offseason surrounding Madubuike’s neck injury. It felt like month by month, Baltimore coaches and staffers revealed optimistic updates, each more encouraging than the last. Now, Madubuike has reached the point where he can actually start playing again.
Still, even though there's a realm where Madubuike practices as early as next week, the Ravens have no reason to rush him back. And they obviously shouldn’t. Spine injuries are no joke, and this team is very lucky to have him cleared to return to live football activities at this point.
Luckily, Baltimore has the defensive line depth they need to be extra precautionary with Madubuike.
Travis Jones and John Jenkins are back for another year, and although they were both also placed on the PUP list, there’s no reason to panic for now. The team also made a big late-offseason signing in the 6-foot-8 form of Calais Campbell. Throw in other guys like Broderick Washington Jr., Aeneas Peebles, Rayshaun Benny, and CJ Okoye, and there could be plenty of contributors in the middle of the defensive front to turn to.
And looking towards Madubuike getting back on the field, the Ravens are due an absolutely massive boost. When the two-time Pro Bowler is at his best, he’s an All-Pro-caliber player who is a game-changing pass rusher, and boy did the team miss that in 2025.
Sure, once Madubuike is back, it’s fair to expect a potential slow start. I mean, he hasn’t played since Week 2 of the 2025 campaign. However, no matter what level he's playing at, we know just how much of a problem he is when he’s on the field in general.
When the Ravens finally put Madubuike next to strong contributors like Jones, Jenkins, and Campbell, Jesse Minter’s defense could truly take off. That’s a fierce line that’ll disrupt any passing game and eat up the run game with ease. It should be a breath of fresh air.
Simply put, the dream that has been in every Ravens fan’s head this offseason is inching closer to becoming a reality. Madubuike is almost ready to return.
