Since Week 2 of the 2025 season, Baltimore Ravens fans have been worried about the status of star defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike. He suffered a neck injury against the Cleveland Browns, and since then, the team has declined to comment much on his status.
While Madubuike will have to give the full update on his health, there’s been a ton of optimism growing. He’s posted some exciting workouts this offseason. Still, the status of his neck injury is uncertain.
On Wednesday, Ravens strength and conditioning coach Scott Elliott provided insight into Madubuike’s progress in recent months, and it has fans feeling hopeful for the 28-year-old’s future.
“I can’t speak in terms of exact attendance, but I will tell you that [Madubuike] is working his tail off,” Elliott said. “He’s in great shape.”
Elliott also added that Madubuike has been a constant communicator through the process.
Baltimore Ravens receive positive Nnamdi Madubuike update
The Ravens have made the trenches a priority this offseason, especially on defense. Their blockbuster signing of Trey Hendrickson should have a stagnant pass rush taking off in 2026. However, there may be no better addition to have than a healthy Madubuike.
Elliott’s excitement about Madubuike’s offseason training tells the whole story. It was hard to miss that wide grin on his face. Somehow, his comments on his training may even be an understatement. From what we've seen on social media, he looks like a different beast.
More encouraging Nnamdi Madubuike workout footage on Instagram. Asked Ravens GM Eric DeCosta about this last week and he said "I think that’s a book that hasn't been written yet, so we'll see what happens with that.” pic.twitter.com/bHclPVamy6

Madubuike’s been a key piece of Baltimore’s defense since a breakout 2023 campaign when he posted 13 sacks. He’s earned two Pro Bowl nods and was well on his way to a third in 2025. He already had two sacks before that neck issue cut his season short two games in. His absence was a clear factor in the team’s pass rush woes, as he's a clear game-changer along the interior of that defensive front.
The Ravens posted just 30 sacks in 2025. They were tied for third-worst in the NFL in that regard. Although the lack of any sort of threat off the edge was their main downfall, not having that lethal sack-getter in Madubuike in the middle allowed opposing offensive lines to play with more freedom. There really wasn’t anyone they had to double-team in pass rush situations.
If he returns, adding Madubuike to a defensive line that includes Trey Hendrickson, Mike Green, and Travis Jones would create a fearsome unit. For now, though, we’ll have to wait and see how Madubuike comes along through his recovery.
