The Baltimore Ravens had some tough cuts coming into NFL roster cutdown day, and one of those included second-year safety Beau Brade. The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebic reported on Tuesday that Brade would not be making the team’s 53-man roster ahead of regular season action.

This move does not rule out a potential return to the practice squad, but confirms undrafted rookie safety Reuben Lowery has made the team. Brian Wacker of The Baltimore Sun reported that Lowery will make the 53-man roster, and the Brade cut appears to be the corresponding move, clearing the path for the Tennessee at Chattanooga product.

Beau Brade cut clears the way for Reuben Lowery

Lowery’s play this offseason demanded a roster spot. He made the news following each day of practice, flying to the ball and pulling in numerous interceptions. He also tallied a pick in Week 2 of the preseason against the Dallas Cowboys. By becoming a takeaway machine in training camp, an aspect of the defense Baltimore desperately needs from their secondary in 2025, the 24-year-old swiftly passed Brade for a roster spot.

With these reports, the Ravens’ safety room appears to be set. Kyle Hamilton and Malaki Starks will start and should prove to be one of the best young safety duos in the NFL. Backing them up should be Lowery and second-year safety out of Purdue Sanoussi Kane. Kane was getting starting reps for the entire preseason and clearly had the edge over Brade, and never gave that up.

If Brade clears waivers, he would likely be one of the first players Baltimore scoops back up. He showed some versatility, playing both safety and nickel throughout preseason play, and can also be a key piece on special teams. Head Coach John Harbaugh values special teams perhaps more than any other coach in the league, and Brade’s experience in the team’s system should make him a favorite for one of the practice squad spots.

In Lowery, the Ravens hope to get production from him in the takeaway department. They will be without Ar’Darius Washington for much of the season, so if Lowery continues to prove himself, the reps should come around.

The team only had 12 interceptions last season, and Lowery should help improve those numbers. He has shown versatility between corner and safety, as well, so it should not take very long before he finds a way onto the field in his rookie year.
