There's a ton of positive buzz around new Baltimore Ravens head coach Jesse Minter. In addition to his creative defensive schemes, the early signs of a strong connection between Minter and Lamar Jackson are evident.
Jackson has previously described Minter as a cool dude and noted that the coaching change is a breath of fresh air. Minter has also expressed immense confidence in Jackson, calling him the best player in the world. It's also worth noting that Lamar was involved in the head coaching search (to some extent).
Now that training camp has started, we are getting further evidence that Lamar and Minter are building a rock-solid partnership. Most notably, during media availability on Wednesday, Jackson revealed that he and Minter will meet regularly throughout the season, to discuss how he can attack defenses.
"He (Minter) pulled me to the side yesterday and he was talking about just coming in and meeting with him so I can see defenses the way he calls it — other defenses, not just his. That's great. ... I think that's a good idea," Jackson said.
Look, this information might not seem like a big deal, but a bond between Lamar and Minter will pay dividends throughout the year and in the long-term future.

Learning this information from a defensive guru in Minter could help Lamar further level up (and the thought should terrify the league's 31 other teams). The areas of improvement for the two-time MVP are few and far between, but everyone can always sharpen up.
Minter's Xs and Os expertise is a clear factor here. He knows defenses as well as anyone in the world. With all due respect, John Harbaugh didn't call plays.
More importantly perhaps, these sessions can ensure something that all great teams need: an elite QB-coach connection.
For a Ravens team with Super Bowl aspirations, everyone needs to be on the same page. Without a doubt, that starts with the coach and quarterback. Frankly, last season it felt like Lamar and Harbaugh weren't totally aligned. While the two had long maintained a solid relationship, it felt like things fell apart in 2025.
From both a personal relationship and a football standpoint, these regular meetings should help Jackson and the team as a whole immensely.
Minter has received glowing reviews from everyone on the team thus far. He brings a new culture and new style to the table -- both feel much needed. This, paired with some of the Ravens' offseason additions, could be all they need to make a long-anticipated Super Bowl run.
Without alignment between Minter and Jackson, though, his fresh perspective and voice might fall on deaf ears. Thankfully, though, Minter building a connection with Jackson will help his message resonate with the rest of the team.
