Ravens need to be in on recent trade buzz swirling around a former starter

A myriad of roster changes should be on the way for the Baltimore Ravens. After a horrendous 2025 campaign and a changing of the guard through the hiring of new head coach Jesse Minter, they should undoubtedly be fighting for ways to make significant upgrades.

The Ravens have never been that aggressive on the free agent or trade market. They’re usually a draft first team. However, there are holes in their roster that must be filled by proven talent. Among those could be the offensive guard spot.

With Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown and Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby hogging the spotlight, some trade candidates could fly under the radar. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Denver Broncos offensive guard Ben Powers could be available due to his heavier cap hit.

Powers isn’t exactly a game-changer, but he’s serviceable. It’d also be a welcome reunion in Baltimore.

Ravens-Ben Powers reunion could make some sense

The Broncos may be reluctant to give up a player like Powers. You can never have too many solidified contributors on the offensive line, and the Oklahoma product has been just that for them. Before biceps tear threw his 2025 campaign off course, he started 17 games in back-to-back seasons.

The problem resides with the money Powers is owed. His cap hit reaches $18.155 million in 2026, and a post-June 1 trade would create $12.23 million in cap savings for Denver. They don’t necessarily need the money with over $20 million in cap space, but every penny counts once free agency rolls around. It may make some sense to create more cap flexibility while also getting decent draft capital in return for a good player.

If the Broncos do contemplate dealing Powers, the Ravens may be the top destination. They need offensive guard help really, really bad. If they can’t find a guy early in free agency and the market at that spot gets picked apart quickly, Powers could be a nice late offseason addition.

Powers would certainly stabilize an awful offensive guard unit. With Emery Jones Jr. expected to start on one side in 2026, acquiring a veteran like Powers could make a lot of sense to help develop Jones, while also helping the offensive line reach new heights. He’s constantly proven himself as a quality starter.

The 29-year-old also has familiarity with Baltimore. While it’s a new era after firing John Harbaugh, the front office, most notably Eric DeCosta and Ozzie Newsome, are very familiar with him and trusted him enough to draft him in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and start in 36 games across his four-year tenure. Now, it could be time to bring him back.

Powers can play on the left and right side, so whichever role the Ravens feel they need filled, he could be the man for the job. With right guard Daniel Faalele set to hit free agency and hopefully depart, Powers could be a much better option next year.
