The Baltimore Ravens pulled off a league-wide shocker on Tuesday evening. They backed out of the blockbuster deal for edge rusher Maxx Crosby, leaving them with a significant hole at edge rusher.
That hole was large before acquiring Crosby, and now, after backing out of the trade, that void is even bigger. They lose out on one of the best pass rushers in the NFL, while also seeing key edge rusher Dre’Mont Jones agree to terms with the New England Patriots during Monday’s tampering period. An already horrific pass rush group is looking like a complete nightmare.
Most of the top free agents have already been picked off the market, too. Thankfully, there’s still one premier pass rusher available. Trey Hendrickson.
Baltimore Ravens must pivot to Trey Hendrickson after Maxx Crosby blunder
After tallying just 30 sacks in 2025, the Ravens need a dominant presence off the edge. Now, they’re desperate. There’s one player who can truly fill such an apparent void now. Hendrickson has to be the player they pivot to. According to one NFL general manager, it could be in the cards.

Hendrickson’s 2025 was marred by injuries. He played in just seven games, but still totaled four sacks. He is also just one year removed from a 17.5-sack season that saw him earn First-Team All-Pro honors. The year before that, he totaled another 17.5 sacks. It’s clear that deep into his career, he’s playing his best football.
Reports did mention on Friday that Hendrickson is nearing a free agency decision. That decision should come on Wednesday.
Free agent pass rusher Trey Hendrickson is expected to make a formal decision tomorrow, per sources.

While that makes it sound like his mind is made up, there’s still time for Baltimore to get involved (and they should). Hendrickson certainly wouldn’t mind entertaining another offer, especially from a team that should be back in the playoffs in 2026. With the money that Crosby would’ve taken freed up, general manager Eric DeCosta should be able to commit a strong offer for Hendrickson.
If Baltimore can’t land Hendrickson, this team will find itself in very deep trouble. They are expected to lose center Tyler Linderbaum to the Las Vegas Raiders, had Crosby, but lost him, too, and have also lost several key contributors in free agency.
Much of the talent and depth on their roster has taken a hit, and the failed trade for Crosby has left their roster lacking star power in even more areas now. They must have a strong backup plan and put that plan into action quickly. It’d make a ton of sense if it were adding Hendrickson.
