An MCL sprain...

As the saying goes: when it rains, it pours. When it felt like things would finally go the Baltimore Ravens’ way along the offensive line, Vega Ioane went down with an injury in Week 7. According to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, the rookie first-round pick suffered an MCL sprain in Sunday’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

While it’s expected to be short-term, the update signals Ioane will miss a little time.

The Ravens had their starting offensive front. Ronnie Stanley, John Simpson, Cam Jurgens, Vega Ioane, and Roger Rosengarten looked to be at least a solid group on paper. And they honestly didn’t look that bad early on. Unfortunately, it lasted just 16 snaps before Ioane left with an injury.

It happened at the end of the first quarter on a Justice Hill 8-yard reception. Ioane ran downfield to help block, but took a helmet to the knee as Bengals linebacker Demetrius Knight went to make the tackle.

After losing three centers to long-term injuries, Ioane moved to center. He played exceptionally there, but the acquisition and Week 7 return of Cam Jurgens allowed Ioane to move back to his home at guard. But now, he’ll spend time on the injury report.

With all the injuries, it’s been a rather frustrating year in Charm City.

Baltimore Ravens face frustrating "short-term" setback with Vega Ioane's MCL sprain

Baltimore’s offensive line has been awful in 2026. Ronnie Stanley has dealt with injuries, John Simpson looks like a waste of $30 million, Roger Rosengarten isn’t reliable enough right now, and the center spot has gone through it.

Cam Jurgens’ return from a concussion added a layer of hope. Unfortunately, they're right back where they started with Vega Ioane’s MCL sprain.

That means in Week 8, the Ravens will likely trot out their sixth different starting offensive line combination. We're only seven games into the season. Injuries have simply worn the trenches down.

What makes it so much more frustrating is the fact that Ioane was far and away the team’s best offensive lineman. He had a slightly rough introduction to the NFL throughout the first two weeks, but since then, he’s soared. The 22-year-old wasn’t just playing like Baltimore’s best offensive lineman; he looked like one of the best interior blockers in the NFL. He was that good through Week 6.

And short-term or not, losing that caliber player hurts big-time. It feels like the Ravens haven’t had their best 11 guys out there on offense all year. At most, maybe they had that for two quarters.

Zay Flowers got hurt in Week 1, Jovaughn Gwyn and Ethan Pocic suffered serious injuries in Week 3, and Lamar Jackson sprained his ankle in Week 4.

Just as Jackson gets closer to his return, his most trusted protector is expected to miss some time. MCL sprains can take anywhere from two to six weeks to recover from, depending on the severity.

It sounds like Ioane avoided a disaster scenario and may have gotten by with a mild MCL sprain. Hopefully that’s the case, because if the Ravens want to compete in 2026, they can’t do it without Vega Ioane. They need him back soon.
